You Can’t Be Stopped!

Let’s look at 1 Corinthians 2:1-5 This is part of the letter that Paul wrote to the Church of Corinth.

And I, brethren, when I came to you, did not come with excellence of speech or of wisdom declaring to you the testimony of God. For I determined not to know anything among you except Jesus Christ and Him crucified. I was with you in weakness, in fear, and in much trembling. And my speech and my preaching were not with persuasive words of human wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, that your faith should not be in the wisdom of men but in the power of God. 

There’s a book called Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table by ― Louie Giglio,  where he says

“The Enemy wants you listening to his voice. The Enemy wants you to lose the battle for your mind. The Enemy wants you looking away from the Lord.”

Did you know the enemy can’t stop you? His only plays are intimidation, distraction, deception, and discouragement. Because the enemy can’t stop you he’s going to try to get you to stop yourself! 

When you were young and your parents said let’s go to Disney, did you have an immediate panic thinking about all the little details and how you were going to pay for the trip? Probably not probably not you were 5! You most likely packed your favorite stuffed animal and a snack for the road and started walking to the car. That’s why you can tell kids anything early, because they will hop into go mode immediately. When a kid is called to something bigger than them, they don’t think about how they’ll get it done they just go! That’s the attitude God wants from us, he wants us to be in go mode for him! 

That’s the same attitude we see in our portion of scripture Paul said I didn’t come in my own knowledge and strength, but I came fully dependent on the knowledge and power of Christ. God doesn’t give you things you can’t do. God wants us to act on the practical part of his work with an expectation that he will be with us! 

We do what we can do God will do what we can’t do! God will give you more than you can handle because he wants you to lean on him. 

God does not need to be carried!

God will call us to huge tasks, but when you take the vision and make it plain, you will see that God only calls us to do the human part of the work. We plant the seeds and rip up the weeds. We rid our vineyard of the little foxes that can destroy it and we stay diligent. 

Jesus is the one who waters our seed and causes it to grow!

Jesus is who makes our work effective. So if he calls you to write a book he doesn’t tell you to figure out how to sell it… He said to write with Him and He will make it a bestseller. When Jesus tells you to start a business he didn’t tell you to find the customers… he said to be diligent and make your plans with Him and He will bring you the customers. And when Jesus says he’s going to restore your family… he tells you to show up with him and pray over them and his love will cause their hearts to change. 

God’s work is always bigger than you. But that’s why it’s GOD’S WORK! It may cause you to ask why me? It may even cause you to ask God if he’s sure as if he doesn’t already know who you are. Following Jesus takes bravery. 

What Jesus calls us to is only impossible if we do it without him.

God never told Moses to split the Red Sea.. he told him to walk up to it and put his staff in the ground. Did God tell Sampson to rip the lion apart, no… but when a lion needed some rippin’ guess who was there to do it, the spirit of the Lord. Did God tell Elisha to run faster than a horse-drawn chariot, no but when it was time to run guess who kicked on the turbo jets, the spirit of the Lord. And when Jesus was raising people from the dead it wasn’t his human body that did it, it was the spirit inside of him!

How many times does God have to show us that with Jesus we cannot be stopped?

Jesus is the one who wakes us up, puts breath in our lungs, gives us the mental capacity to do the work he called us to, and strengthens us to carry it through to the end. It’s the breath of God that makes our work effective! It’s accepting the finished work of Christ that makes us Change agents! When Jesus calls you, HE qualifies you, HE makes you Capable, and HE sustains you! So step out in faith and stop looking to do the impossible… because That’s what Jesus does! 

Go boldly into the things God calls you to and remember that you cannot be stopped because Jesus is with you!
