Q&A
Is being good, good enough for God?

Is being good, good enough for God?

I occasionally take questions on my Instagram stories here: The Basic Christian

This question came from a subscriber:

“Is being a good person good enough in God’s eyes, we all sin but is that enough in his eyes?”

When we start to decide what is good or bad we must apply this thought process to everyone. Logically anyone can determine what is good or bad. This makes us our own god’s we are on our own, making our own decisions for ourselves. You’ll see this in the bible described as an idol.

If the standard of good is whatever we decide, we have to remember everyone doesn’t think the same and people are broken. We all live with broken minds broken spirits, broken attitudes, and broken hearts and this will be reflected in our actions and choices.

The Bible says:

The heart is deceitful above all things and beyond cure. Who can understand it?

Jeremiah 17:9 NIV

So the heart is deceitful and beyond cure and we can’t understand it but we use it every day to make decisions.

So when you think you’re doing the right thing it could very well be wrong because your heart is naturally messed up. Think about all of the times you did something thinking it was a good idea but it turned out to be a terrible thing to do. You didn’t understand what you did was a bad idea until after you did it when you reflected on it. It was bad even though you had good intentions.

We are all born with a sinful nature and have messed up hearts. The Bible says:

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Romans 6:23 ESV

When you accept the salvation that Jesus died and rose for you are then born again with a new nature. Your debt is wiped clean. Jesus transfers the wages of your sin from your account to his account and you receive his righteousness.

Remember, God is holy, so in order to come into his presence he requires that we are also made holy. That is what the righteousness of Christ does. It allows us access to God’s presence by making us righteous.

We can’t work or earn our way into God’s presence, the bible says:

We are all infected and impure with sin. When we display our righteous deeds, they are nothing but filthy rags. Like autumn leaves, we wither and fall, and our sins sweep us away like the wind.

Isaiah 64:6 NLT

This means even our best good work is like filthy rags compared to God because God isn’t only good. He is holy and as a result of his holy nature, he can’t help but be good. There is no possible way we can meet his standard without his help.

Jesus is the help, he is our saving grace, he is our savior, and he is the way out of death, hell, and the grave because we can’t save ourselves were just not that good.

If you’ve been following me for a while and you mustered up the courage to as that question that means one thing. You have been feeling Jesus tug at you. Your spirit is unsettled and God is calling you. He has a plan for you and he’s waiting for you to invite him in.

You don’t have to do this but remember our time here is short and you never know what tomorrow will bring. Im going to pray for you and you can pray with me if you’d like. Accepting Jesus is the most important thing you will ever do, it will alter the trajectory of your family and the generations that will come after you.

You are the curse breaker and the bloodline changer in your family but up until now you’ve been doing it in your own strength, God wants to step in and empower you to make the changes you’ve been striving for this entire time.

So let’s pray, repeat after me:

Dear Lord Jesus I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead. I turn from my sin and invite you to come into my heart and my life. I want to trust You and follow You as my Lord and Savior. Amen.

Thats it! If you prayed that prayer and you really meant it Jesus is now your Lord and Savior and your eternal destination just changed! Congratulations Heaven is celebrating!

The Bible says:

But everyone who denies me here on earth, I will also deny before my Father in heaven.

Matthew 10:33 NLT

So if you prayed that prayer, leave a comment for the world to see:

“I gave my life to Christ”

I hope this helped.
